Machakos Institute of Technology (MIT) is a transformative, technology-based training institution established in 2008 that has become a center of excellence for middle-level education. The institution focuses on technology, academic rigor, experiential learning, and entrepreneurship through a technology-transformation approach. MIT offers a wide range of educational programs including Short courses, Artisan, Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma courses across multiple specialized schools. These schools include Engineering; Computing and Information Technology; Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy; Business Education; Hospitality Management; Social Work and Community Development; Applied and Health Sciences; Information Science; Accounts and Finance; Fashion & Design Technology; Architecture and Building Technology; Counselling and Psychology; and Media and Journalism. The institution operates with three annual intakes in January, May, and September and has graduated 12 cohorts of students since its inception. MIT emphasizes holistic student development through cultural events, sports and recreation, career development programs, and an active student union (MITSU) that holds annual democratic elections.
