About National oil-nyeri
The National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOC) is a fully integrated state-owned corporation established in April 1981 under Kenyan law. It operates across the entire petroleum supply chain, including upstream oil and gas exploration, midstream infrastructure development, and downstream marketing of petroleum products. The corporation's activities began with petroleum exploration in the Lamu Basin in the 1950s, leading to the first commercially viable oil discovery in Kenya's Tertiary rift in 2012. A key initiative is the Mwananchi Gas Project, a national LPG enhancement program implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. Leadership includes Chairman Kiraitu Murungi, a former Energy Minister who advocates for domestic oil production to mitigate external economic shocks, and Board Chairman Eng. Patrick Obath, appointed in October 2021 for his extensive management experience. The corporation aims to secure Kenya's energy independence and stabilize fuel supply against global market fluctuations.
