About National Oil Corporation-Lanet
The National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOC) is a fully integrated state-owned corporation established in April 1981 under Kenyan law. It operates across the entire petroleum supply chain, including upstream oil and gas exploration, midstream infrastructure development, and downstream marketing of petroleum products. The corporation's activities began with petroleum exploration in the 1950s in the Lamu Basin, with the first commercially viable oil discovery occurring in 2012 in the Tertiary rift. NOC is also involved in the Mwananchi Gas Project, a national LPG enhancement initiative led by the Kenyan government through the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum. The corporation aims to enhance Kenya's energy security by producing its own oil to mitigate external economic shocks such as currency volatility and geopolitical conflicts. Its leadership includes a board appointed by the President of Kenya, with recent appointments emphasizing experienced management at national and international levels.
