Caritas Marsabit is the humanitarian and development organization of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit, serving Marsabit County. Its mission is to empower communities to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and live with dignity and harmony. The organization focuses on six key program areas: Health & Nutrition, which addresses malnutrition and improves health outcomes for mothers, children, and families; Sustainable Livelihoods, which equips communities with skills and resources for economic independence; Disasters & Climate Action, aimed at creating safer, stronger communities facing risks like drought; WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), delivering access to clean water and promoting hygiene; Justice & Peace, promoting fairness, community, and conflict resolution to encourage peace and unity; and System Strengthening, which focuses on transparent and accountable service delivery.
A featured initiative is the Pastoralist Girl Mentorship project, which mentors school-going girls in rural Marsabit through life skills sessions covering topics like FGM, early marriage, and children's rights, facilitated by community experts and female leaders.
The leadership includes Rt. Rev. Bishop Peter Kihara Kariuki as Bishop of Marsabit, Mr. Isacko Jirma as Director, and Rajesh Mosoti as Deputy Director and Head of Programmes.
