Koinonia Education Centre

Koinonia Education Centre is a Christian mixed school located in Maai Mahiu, approximately 50 km northeast of Nairobi in Kenya's Great Rift Valley. Founded in 2003 as a kindergarten for underprivileged children in the Kibagare slums west of Nairobi, the school relocated to Maai Mahiu in 2020 to accommodate growing demand. The institution serves children from kindergarten through high school, offering a comprehensive, holistic education with a Christian ethos rooted in Acts 2:42-46. The school's mission focuses on developing competent, transformational servant leaders who apply biblical principles in all aspects of life. Koinonia employs a child-centered, individualized approach that recognizes each learner's unique potential, fostering lifelong learning through exploration and discovery. The educational philosophy emphasizes the "5Cs": Character, Critical Thinking, Creativity, Competency, and Communication. Beyond academics, the school offers extracurricular activities including sports, music, dance, drama, and pastoral care. Koinonia has achieved county-level recognition in sports and music competitions. The school operates primarily through sponsorship programs, providing free education to underprivileged children while transitioning to include up to 30% fee-paying students for long-term sustainability. Sponsorship covers tuition, uniforms, extracurricular activities, and meals (one daily meal for day students, three meals plus dormitory accommodation for boarding students). The school actively involves parents as partners in education and welcomes children from all backgrounds into its nurturing, inclusive environment.
