HOMAWASCO

Homa Bay County Water and Sanitation Company Limited (HOMAWASCO) is a water utility company established on June 12, 2006, under the Company's Act. Originally named South Nyanza Water and Sanitation Company, it was renamed in August 2014 to align with devolution policies that assign water and sanitation responsibilities to county governments.

The Homa Bay County Government is the primary shareholder. The company's mandate is to provide water and sanitation services across eight sub-counties in Homa Bay County: Mbita, Suba, Kasipul, Karachuoyo, Rangwe, Kabondo, Ndhiwa, and Homa Bay township.

It operates six water schemes: Homa Bay, Oyugis, Mbita, Kendu Bay, Ndhiwa, and Karachuonyo. HOMAWASCO serves a population of 259,066 with 12,679 total connections, of which 9,379 are active, and manages nine operating schemes. Its services include water provision, wastewater services, water bowser (portable water delivery), and exhauster services for areas without sewer lines.

The company also engages in expansion and improvement projects, such as the Atemo Treatment Works in Oyugis and water kiosks like Kapita, to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable water and sanitation. Customers include households, industries, schools, government institutions, banks, NGOs, and parastatals.
