About Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College, Nyeri
Sister Leonella Consolata Medical College (SLCMC) is a faith-based medical training institution operating under the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri. Located in Nyeri County along the Nyeri-Ihururu road approximately 7 kilometers from Nyeri town, the college serves as the training division of Consolata Hospital Mathari, a level-5 healthcare facility. Founded in 1945 by Consolata Missionaries as Consolata Nursing School, it initially offered Certificate in Nursing programs and has since evolved into a comprehensive medical college. In 2019, the institution was renamed in honor of Sister Leonella Sgorbati, a Consolata missionary nurse who served at Consolata Hospital Mathari from 1970 to 1983 before being tragically killed in Mogadishu, Somalia in 2006 during her missionary work. The college offers various medical training programs including diplomas and higher diplomas, with current applications open for the Higher Diploma in Nephrology Nursing March 2026 intake. It maintains an e-learning platform for online training and has demonstrated academic success, such as achieving a 100% pass rate for KRCHN students in the 2023 class. The institution hosts regular events including graduation ceremonies and community activities.
